Slumber parties, secrets, first crushes, and coming of age. It’s all happening once more with our nine year old daughter just as we witnessed with my older stepdaughter a decade ago. It is such a delight watching young girls grow, the way they forms ideas and opinions. How they possess that sweet innocence of youth but grow more mature and worldly each day. They talk of where they want to travel, the things they want to draw or write about, the adventures they want to have today and tomorrow.
I remember being a young girl and having similar dreams, listening to records on the floor of my bedroom and doodling in my sketchbook. Bedrooms for girls are special spaces, it’s there where they sleep and where they think, where they giggle about the present, and also dream of their future.
I truly enjoy the process of decorating for girls and a week ago finished a corner of the bedroom belonging to one of my daughter’s best friends – these two share a love of cheetahs, swim team, Scooby Doo, Harry Potter, and the color blue. All too soon that will change but for now I’m enjoying this moment in time.
In just a few short years, they will be teenagers and so a few more mature furniture choices made sense from the small trunk end table to a sophisticated tufted headboard to a modern geometric lamp, yet the room still possesses the sweetness of the age.
Beyond the friendship, I love watching the larger group of girls at this age – the future artists and dancers, athletes, entrepreneurs, and scientists that will change the world. Creating a space where those dreams begin is one of my most favorite things to do!
The gold trunk and butterfly bedding are from the new Emily + Meritt for PBteen collection, a collaboration of stylish room accents by fashion designers Emily Current and Meritt Elliott. The collection is full pretty and whimsical accents in a gold, blue, and white palette and I’m crushing on these favorite pieces too, which would be oh so chic in any space!
The medallion rug used in the room was also on sale at PBteen. Ceramic lamp from Home Goods, scroll “S” from Charming Little Nest on Etsy.
*This post is a sponsored partnership with PBteen, many thanks to them for assisting in the creation of this special corner, all opinions are my own.
