All of us fans are still mourning the loss of Prince, he was one of the icons that was so much a part of our generation. As Jimmy Fallon stated in his tribute on Saturday Night Live, “He had his own color, he owns purple.” It was everywhere, on his guitars, his clothing, and we all know the famous song.
The color purple is not used as often as it should be as an accent in my opinion. I’m not a huge fan of saturated crayon purple in decor, but I love muted lilac and rich plum, especially when paired with gray and gold. Purple has such an elegant quality when done right. Today’s post is dedicated to the the color purple and Prince, he will be missed.

Finally, someone who appreciate using purple in décor! I love all of your purple features, Kate! And I agree, it’s a elegant color when done correctly.
Gail I love your blog dedicated to the color, nice !!!
Lovely! The lilac and lavender hues are a nice alternative to the popular blush accents right now.

What a great ode to Prince!
I love purple! My living room is deep shades of indigo with lavender highlights among the white trim and all. Gorgeous rooms, thanks for sharing.
That orchid arrangement…wow!! franki
Beautiful tribute to prince! Thank you , Kate.
I so love muted purple tones they are so elegant and calming. I have from time to time introduced purple to my home but alas my husband does not particularly like it. A few months back Crate and Barrel showed an amethyst story. I was in love. The pictures above are making me think “hmmm maybe”.
I love a good purple sweater in the Fall and Winter but I have always shied away from using it in my home’s decor and I’m a girl that loves color. Thanks for the ideas. Something tells me Prince himself would have approved!
The black walls and curtains (those curtains, wow!) in the room by Carey Karlan. While I could not live with the room in my space, I appreciate the results of the design pendulum swung in the other direction.
What a lovely tribute to Prince. Thank you so very much!
Well shucks … guess I’m making a new Pinterest board – Prince and the color Purple!
What a cool way to honor him, thanks Kate!
Last year I redid my living room and purchased a custon made purple velvet chesterfield sofa as the main focal point. People (including my husband) thought I was crazy, but it is very elegant and super adaptable to all kinds of looks. I still absolutely LOVE it and it puts a smile on my face everytime I walk in the room. I think it’s a keeper and a piece of furniture I’ll have for many, many years.
