Twinkle Light Christmas Table

By Kate Riley December 9, 2015

Last week we hosted an early Christmas dinner since my siblings were in town, sharing libations and laughter with my family brings me so much joy. I was invited by Pottery Barn to share one of my holiday traditions and what’s more traditional than a meal shared with family? I set our dining room table with new finds from Pottery Barn coupled with a few basics I had stored away.

The evergreen dinner plates (in stores) are a new classic I’ve added to my Christmas collection, paired with the Luna flatware. The place tag is an oh so simple DIY touch – it’s a wooden tag with an evergreen sprig secured with glittery washi tape and embellished with ribbon.

Those clear beaded geometric placemats are vintage, I found them at local antique shop several years ago and I’ve been keeping them in my stash for the perfect occasion. They add pattern, sparkle, and texture between the basic tablecloth and charger. And I so LOVE my new caramel faux fur pillow, although my daughter has already claimed it for her favorite reading spot on the couch. :)

How nice it was to welcome my two of my siblings into our home last weekend, below I captured my sister and brother-in-law toasting the season.

In our family before dinner the men prefer craft beers while the ladies love the pretty cocktails so I whipped up a set of cranberry pomegranate martinis in those oh so pretty library martini glasses, find the recipe here.

I love the mixture of natural and sparkle at Christmas. Two Madeline mercury glass vases hold simple eucalyptus stems for shape, texture, and scent, the berries came from a tree in the yard, they add a fresh dose of color.

I prefer to scatter accents instead of worry about perfect placement. On the linen runner in the cactus color are faceted recycled glass trees paired with mercury glass votives (in stores), pretty little lovelies that add ambiance and will never go out of style. No holiday tabletop is complete without votives!

There’s something magical about twinkle lights, no wonder we string them up everywhere this time of year. My favorite addition to the table are the mini lights strung across the stems and berries. Eucalyptus needs no water which made it easy to nestle the battery operated control inside the mercury glass vase. They are also a great conversation piece, everyone wants to know where they’re from (Pottery Barn of course!) and they add that extra special touch.

I love mixing old and new, traditional and modern, it feels fresher than sticking with decor in one singular style. The new pieces from Pottery Barn give the table both a classic and contemporary vibe. The linens and flatware are seasonless and can be used again and again for future tablescapes to come. Cheers !

  1. Love the twinkle lights! I don’t see a link to them in your post. Are they the LED string lights in warm white? They don’t look like warm white in the photos, but that’s all I can find on the Pottery Barn website. Thanks!!

  2. Beautiful table Kate! Pretty place cards and those twinkle lights really add such a nice touch. I thought that was you in the photo! You and your sister look so much alike. Both of you are beautiful women.

  3. Those table settings are absolutely amazing! Unfortunately the evergreen dinner plates are not available anymore for some reason.

The mix of everything traditional and modern, it is pulled together very well. Great job! The vases look beautiful, we sell some very similar to these at our store since the Pottery Barn ones are not available anymore.

The martinis and decorations surrounding them look beautiful. Can’t wait to try them out.

FYI, your evergreen dinner plates link is broken. You need to remove the (in stores) at the end of the link.

  4. Great tablescape! Love the green and those name tags are super cute! :) Twinkle lights are always my favorite part and you are so right about them being magical.

  5. You prefer to scatter accents instead of doing a perfect placement. But, the arrangement is looking just amazing, everything is blending so beautifully with each other. And, the lights are adding that necessary glow to the table.
