Breezy Colorful Dining Room {Takeaway Tuesday}

By Kate Riley May 13, 2014

I’m loving palettes and textures inspired by tropics right now, perhaps it’s because we’re off on our own vacay next week for Matt’s birthday (Kauai here we come!) and it’s hard to work with the thought of the islands just days away. Also, touches of tropical are trending right now, have you noticed?

Summer is just around the corner and so many of us are dreaming of sand between our toes and swaying palm trees overhead, even if just for a week. I’ve loved this space decorated by Dana Small since it was featured over at House of Turquoise in 2011 (it also appeared in Coastal Living). I thought this breezy casual yet colorful dining room was perfect inspiration for today’s takeaways.

A few other ideas to consider: there’s no need for a rug underneath a dining table if you prefer it that way, it makes for easier sweeping and shows off the flooring. Also notice the table, the rustic wood adds further texture and warmth to the space like the fixture above but a sleek glass top adds a reflective quality and makes clean up practical. Such a breezy colorful space, one of my favorites!

  1. Kate, I think you mean Dana Small. When you said it was Dana Miller I was surprised because it didn’t look like house tweakings usual style. I checked the link and the designer is Dana Small. I can tell where your mind is right now! :-). Kauai her Kate.comes! Have an awesome time! You deserve it!:-)

    • Ha, thanks Tamara!! fixed that :) I just emailed Dana Miller so her last name was on my mind!

    • Hi Astor! Dana Small has a shop in Florida, and I read most of the pieces in her home were sourced from it, follow the link and give her a call!

  2. Kate, SO beautiful and I covet the dining room chairs. Have a wonderful vacation!

  3. Totally unintended but that’s the color scheme I’ve got going in my living room. It’s turning out really nice.
