Our Home This Christmas

By Kate Riley December 16, 2013

It was a weekend full of activity for us and I bet yours was too! I managed to take a few more images of our home in between the busyness of the seasonal activities and obligations. Nester is hosting her annual party today so the timing is perfect to share a few more snapshots from our abode.

For those who visit, you know my decorating style is light and bright, clean and simple. This year I spent much less time on the holiday decorating process because when it starts to feel more tedious instead of joyful, that’s when it’s time to pull back and focus instead on the feelings that come from enjoying the moments of the season rather than the pressure to put on a big show.

In December, I love a mix of natural greenery and sparkle, so I picked up a few little trees and a wreath at my local nursery and Trader Joes which you’ll see scattered about. The rest of the embellishments are just baubles and trinkets pulled from the bins of Christmas favorites.

The palette this year is silver, gold, and verdant green. Evergreen branches and pale poinsettias are the seasonal botanicals I’ve brought indoors and both are easily discarded and swept up when the season is over in a few short weeks.

  1. So incredibly fresh and pretty! I really love how you styled your fireplace mantle, with the two white trees in urns at both sides. White trees are my newest Christmas decorating crush! Have a wonderful Christmas season, Kate.

  2. Beautiful, Kate.. love your decorating…

Where did you get your dining room curtains, gold frames in the formal living room, and bench in hallway. Thanks….

  3. So lovely. I’m sayin to know where you got the framed metallic snowflake sitting on your living room console. I love it.

  4. I love seeing your home at Christmastime every year, Kate. You always do such a stunning job! So elegant, stylish, and effortless. Thanks so much for sharing. Merry Christmas to you and yours!

  5. when it starts to feel more tedious instead of joyful, that’s when it’s time to pull back and focus instead on the feelings that come with the enjoying the moments of the season rather than the pressure to put on a big show. Amen! Your home is beautiful!

  6. Please share the model name and source of the exquisite mirror to the right of your piano!

  7. Love your style and your ideas. Have you posted your pics on Pinterest yet? Would love to pin a few. Thanks.

  8. It’s all beautiful, Kate! I love seeing your house at Christmas each year. I especially like the way your photos look magazine-worthy, but it looks as if a family really lives at your house and enjoys it!

  9. I love the look of the gold framed sign above your couch. I cannot quite make it out can you pls tell me what it says and where it is from please?

  10. I love the Moravian stars on your tree! Where did you find these? I can only seem to find glass ones but I love the white.

  11. Kate, your home is lovely once again! I love the bench and ceramic stool (not sure if that’s what that is?) at the base of the stairs with the presents as accents. Can you share where you found the stool at? I see versions of these in magazine spreads but never in stores.

    • Hi Meg, yes that is stucco, as I recall the color is “Egg Cream” (I think) and it’s a pale yellow.

  12. Breathtaking – and such a calm and peacefulness about it all. Just beautiful!

Just curious where you store all of Christmas decor during the year… Do you have a dedicated storage area just for Christmas stuff? Indoors and climate controlled, etc.

    • Thank you Lori, I store all my Christmas stuff in big plastic bins – we have a closet under the stairs where I hide/store it all.

  13. Hi Kate:
Call me crazy, but I always get a little giddy when I see my in box with a post from you. I marvel at your designers eye…..I often wonder, did you always re arrange your bedroom growing up?

    Two Questions:
One, the faux fur on the chair is scrumptious, is that readily available to the public?
two, since I don’t often ask questions and just read and marvel and repin, should I return to this post to check on a reply?

    God Bless your Holiday,
    Meg

  14. You’ve got THE most beautiful house I’ve seen online or in person. You’ve got quite the eye for color and placement. It’s always a pleasure to see your house.

  15. Love your decorations sooo much, so fresh and love the pop of that apple green <3<3<3
Makes me want to re do my whole house , but sticking with gold and red for this year.
Merry Christmas Centsational girl, I enjoy your decor and tips all year long !!

  16. Our home is undecorated so far (except for a swag and wreath on the front door) as I was traveling for work quite a bit following Thanksgiving. We finally got our tree this Sunday, but it’s been sitting in the garage. I haven’t visited your blog in a while because I’ve been so busy but was drawn to check it this morning — and it was just the boost I needed to get inspired and start decorating. When you start to look at decorating as a “must do,” it stops being fun and the desire goes away. Thanks so much for the inspiration to get going (for the right reasons) and for all the beautiful ideas. Your tree is … breathtaking.

  17. Your home tour is, without a doubt, one of the most beautiful I have ever seen!!!!! Perfection and warmth! :)

  18. Everything looks so clean and fresh. I like the green berries on your front door wreath. Love the colors with all your neutrals. Very inspiring and peaceful feeling.

  19. Kate –

I love the frames in the stairway – they really stand out to me! Do you happen to recall where you got them from?

  20. What a great style you have Kate! Your home decor is a feast for the eyes and the Christmas scene is no exception..thank you for sharing! Merry Christmas!

  21. Love your home. Those are colors and design I am slowly working towards. Kitchen renovation this year which I love. Used a Glidden Paint called Romance which is close to your pale white/blue. Love it. Thank you.

  22. Hi Kate, a friend of mine was visiting today and I was raving to her about your blog, so I decided to show her your Christmas tour. I stopped at the picture of your dining room table when I spotted your round, french dining chair. I have the exact same chairs, but they’re bar stool height. I found them at Marshall’s and have been looking for matching, standard height chairs. Please tell me where you found yours. I know restoration hardware and world market sell similar items, but the ones at world market have a darker finish and mine are sort of a blonde color and have the unfinished look. It seems like yours do as well. Thanks!

  23. Where did you get this beautiful sofa? I have been searching high and low for this look. I’m hoping you can remember and that they still have this style.

    Thanks!
