Looking Forward & Back

By Kate Riley December 30, 2013

Hello friends! I hope you enjoyed your Christmas last week, for us that week of doing a lot of nothing went by extremely fast and here we are facing a new year in a few days. Matt and I do much of our best planning for the future while we talk on long road trips and on vacay up to Lake Tahoe and back we set goals and made projections for 2014. bring on 2014

We’ve held off on investing in real estate for a few years but at last we’re gearing up to purchase so we can do what we love most which is remodeling homes and spaces – that said we’ve got our eye on a few fixers in the local area, so 2014 will bring a lot of home improvement posts your way and as always I’ll share it all as it happens.

I’m working on several more fabric designs and planning on a release of more patterns in several colorways in January, look forward to that! There are a few partnerships and collaborations in the works, all of it related to this continuing conversation on interior design that is both pretty and practical, so I’m very excited to jump into 2014.

It’s tradition to look back this time of year and highlight favorite projects, so without further ado, I’ve narrowed down the 12 most popular DIY projects and space makeovers of 2013:

best of 2013 diy

tiling a bathroom backsplash / Ikea hack: a textured dresser makeover / how to paint bathroom cabinets / diy mosaic tile mirror

best of 2013 projects

besta + billy bookcases with lights / lego meets lack play table / how to spray paint furniture/ criss cross outdoor planters

best of 2013 space makeovers

guest room upgrades / outdoor room makeover / lavender & blue girl’s room / rustic refined dining room

I’m linking up to Rhoda’s Top Posts of 2013 link party and you can find the most popular DIY projects from the blog to date right here. Find me over at Rambling Renovators today talking about my two favorite posts from 2013.

I’m taking a few more days off to finish up extremely exciting non blog worthy things like end of the year paperwork, photo organization, and packing up Christmas.

I’ll be back on Thursday January 2nd to kick start the new year.

Cheers and Happy New Year to all of you, bring on 2014 !

  1. Ooh, so excited to see what you’ll do with a new home Kate! Looks like 2013 was a fantastic year for you. Your guest bedroom update is still one of my favourite makeovers. Thanks for joining the tour. Wishing you all the best for the new year! xo

  2. I’m looking forward to your upcoming renovations on your (sounds like) probable real estate investment! Great idea to keep doing what you do best. When you’re finished, sell and move on to the next challenge – love it!

  3. When you see your year in pictures of your projects is breathtaking…. what a year!!! Let´s go for the 2014!!!

  6. Hi! I found your website a few days ago. I love the wonderful DIY and home make-over projects in it. I’m really excited to look through your older posts, in particular the furniture makeovers. I moved in with my significant other recently, so it’ll be a fun challenge learning to combine our tastes and make a nice home for ourselves. Thank you for the beautiful inspiration!

  7. Happy New Year! You had a great year of projects! If I can be as productive in 2014 as I was in the last month or two of 2013, I will be a happy girl. Nothing like having a baby to get that nesting into high gear. Hoping 2014 is a good one for you! :)
