Savoring Summer

School starts in less than three weeks for us, and I’m in no way ready for fall.

When summer began I had the same feeling I think many moms do, dreading wondering how I was going to fill all those summer days.  But I forgot just how wonderful summer really is.  Sleeping in every morning past eight, lounging around the house in our pajamas, with the only commitment being a daily swim lesson.   There’s no rushing, no homework, and no real bedtime.  We’ve all settled quite nicely into a daily routine of very little.

There’s been some motorcycle racing between Blue Guy and Yellow Guy.

Plenty of free playtime, bedhead and messes . . .

wild pony rides . . .

carousel rides

. . . and a little mutiny.

I’m loving this summer spent with my munchkins.

And ever since I discovered this, we’ve stayed plenty busy making a lot of this.

Time does what it does well, it flies incredibly fast.  It is hard to accept the kids are back to school in less than three weeks.   I look forward to a real schedule and more time for all those projects that have been placed on the back burner, but I am determined to enjoy what’s left of this break.

You’ll forgive me if the pace around here is a little slower during the next two weeks.  You see, we’re incredibly busy savoring summer ~ there are only 19 days left.

  1. Childhood =) I did feel horrified, on behalf of little bubbies everywhere, to see ‘back to school’ signs in the windows of shops yesterday. Give them a few more weeks, there are hundreds of sand castles yet to be built!

  2. I am the mom who dreaded summer a little bit b/c the 4 year old likes to be busy! We’ve done pretty well this summer, and I have enjoyed sleeping in and afternoons at the pool. :) Enjoy your last days of summer. Preschool won’t start up here until after Labor Day. Yikes!

  3. We’re not even half way through our 70 days of summer, so we have a few weeks before I wax nostalgic over sleep-ins and sand castles! This year, with mine 14, 13, 11 and 10, I’ve been savouring every minute of it. Enjoy your last couple of weeks :)

  4. What a fun post – I enjoyed reading all about the little snippets of life, and seeing pictures of your adorable munchins.

Please continue savoring – childhood is gone in a blink.

  5. TEAR!!!! In reading this post it brought me back to my own childhood seeing your children play in those pics. When I was a kid, summer was the best time, pool, playing in the garden, just so relaxed. My little one is not yet 2 so no major schedules to worry about.. but I still cant believe that summer is almost over. I do hope you enjoy your time with your little ones… time always seems to slip away!!!

  6. Kate –

Although I am an avid (and somewhat obsessed!) reader of all things Centsational Girl, and the like, I rarely take the time to comment. I know, shame on me! : ( But please know that I rant and rave EVERY.CHANCE.I.GET. to my co-workers/colleagues/neighbors/hubby/family members about your blog! It is so inspiring and such a pleasure to read!! The thought you put into each post…even the little things such as spellcheck lol, makes it stand out from the rest. I hope you keep doing what you do best and keep loving every minute of it!!! Your motivation is quite simply contagious. : )

  7. As a mom spending lots of time with her boys this summer, your post made me both happy thinking about the fun times and sad thinking about the arrival of fall- especially since I just started buying Christmas gifts!

  8. I love all the photos! what a wonderful way to spend summer – with the most important people in your life. ENJOY!

  9. I agree totally. Summer comes and goes way too quickly. Now that my boys are grown, I can look back with such joy on all that we did – or didn’t do – during those lazy days of summers past. Enjoy, because before you know it, spending time with you will be like torture to them :-).

  10. Ha ! Peggy too true !!! Thanks Noelle, I am beyond flattered. Little encouraging words like that keep ME inspired. Bless you.

  11. Back to school in less than two weeks for us! August 9th (really the middle of summer if you ask me). Summer seemed way too short. Maybe because my baby will be a JUNIOR in high school and the oldest a JUNIOR in college. Life doesn’t seem to slow down anymore. You are so right to enjoy it all while you can…they grow up in a blink of an eye.

  12. I know how you feel Kate! When summer first starts, I miss the structure and predictability of the school year. Then by July I’m freaking out that summer is almost over! It’s nice to take a break from being cab driver! :)

Your kids are precious…thanks for sharing.

  13. Beautifully written! I am absolutely loving this summer with my babes (3 & 6) and don’t want it to end! Autumn is my favorite season, but I’ve got to say, I’m lovin’ this summer! Enjoy the remaining days!

  14. I know I can’t believe that school is less that 3 weeks away and summer is almost over. I feel like i need to make these last 3 weeks count with the kids.
    Great post!!

  15. I think the best thing about this post is how it shows what a great mom you are! You took a step back and really saw what a blessed life you have, sometimes us mom’s forget to do that in all the chaos life can bring. So awesome to read.

  16. What little sweethearts you have! SUPER lucky too!!!!!! Enjoy the rest of your summer with them. It is fleeting isn’t it?

  17. I agree…only two weeks until school starts for us here and I can’t believe how quickly the summer went by. I’m planning my fall schedule and lots of projects, but I’m going to miss the kids, too!

  18. I hear ya. Summer always goes by too fast for me. This year we get a longer one because they’re building a new wing onto the school building, so we have until the second week of September. I’m glad we get a little extra time to savor these lazy days. :-)

  19. I’m not sure, but it’s probably bubble gum! Great post, I’ve been seeing similar ones in blogland and think it’s good to show the daily-ness of life to your readers, thank you! We can’t get these times back!

  20. What a fun post. Your photos, as usual, are beautiful! Your kids are adorable. I agree with Noelle’s comment! I look forward to your psot each day. It’s fabulous and so inspirational. Don’t ever stop! Enjoy the rest of your summer with your lovely family.

  21. I sure hate to see the summer come to a close. It has been a wonderful summer!!! My sweet daughter leaves to go back to college on August 18th. I am sad already. I love having my girl at home. Love & blessings from NC!

  22. I LOVE summer, I love the lazy mornings (for them at least!) and long walks at night when everyone is out and about in the neighborhood at the parks, the kids stay out until late playing games, the parents sit around and talk…just love it! I’m shocked school begins for you in three weeks? What?! That is early…Janell

  23. BobbinNoggin and Kara – those are colored MnMs ~ I buy them at a local specialty candy shoppe. Chocolate chocolate chocolate . . . can’t get enough.

  24. Your children are beautiful. I used to love summer when the kids were home. I still love summer because the neighbor kids are home and I like the bicycles going past the house and the sound of the ball from next door hitting my house. It has been so hot this summer that it almost feels as if we are missing it by staying inside way too much.

  25. I’m a little teary-eyed reading that post, which is silly, because my two are still too young to even be in school!!! (c: But it is a lovely reminder that it flies by all too fast and to savor the sweet with the sour…Thanks for the beautifully put thoughts!!!

  26. I loved to see that your kids make messes too! Everytime I see a picture of your home its spotless and I was wondering how does she do it…kids…clean house….creative and time consuming project? Way to make it real! I can’t wait for your next giveaway! It sounds like something I would love love love to win!
