Weekend Reading

By Kate Riley January 21, 2017

Weekend hellos! The rainstorms continue here in California, which means there will be plenty of snow (and water) for our state this year. Next weekend, I’m headed up to the mountains and beautiful Lake Tahoe with some friends to play in the snow, I haven’t been there in a few years so I’m looking forward to a little getaway! Next week I’m helping to put the finishing touches on a second kitchen makeover for my local Committee on the Shelterless, this one is very different than the one I featured this week, I’ll share that completed renovation when it’s done.

I’m also excited to share that I’m headed back to Australia next month. My cousin in Gold Coast is expecting a baby (her first) and since I didn’t get a chance to explore Melbourne on my first time in Australia, I made up my mind to fly back there for another visit to explore both those cities. The travel bug got me again! All that sunshine down under will be a welcome break from the dreariness of winter here. I’d love to read any “must see” recommendations for my visit to Melbourne and Gold Coast!

I enjoyed the tour of this colorful Australian home near Byron Bay.

This is a lovely powder room makeover. That wallpaper!

This tile backsplash. Wow.

Loving the look of this black & white laundry room.

Layering is key with an all white bedroom.

60 things to toss in the next 60 days.

Pale blue, a color of peace.

    Germarie!

  2. We loved the Melbourne Colonial Tram restaurant. Great views as you travel through the city. Good food.

  3. Reduce, re-use and recycle. Don’t toss or throw away. There is no away. It’s all still on our planet.

  4. Healsville Sanctuary is definitely worth the trip. If you have the time, the Great Ocean Road to Wornambool.

    Enjoy.

  5. Hi from the Gold Coast, Australia!!! Depending on what your interests are, of course the beaches are lovely, I would recommend visiting Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary and we also have a lovely hinterland close by that has a tree top walk and Mt Tamborine is nice to visit with wineries etc. Surfers Paradise is a hit with the tourists but I prefer Broadbeach. It just feels cleaner and less rushed. Surfers is about the nightclubs and Broady is more about the restaurants (and Jupiters Casino) hope the weather behaves for you and can’t wait to read about your travels. Kelly

    • thank you Kelly, my cousin also mentioned the Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary and the hinterland! Thanks for the tip on Broadbeach too!

  6. Really?! Long time reader here and a bit surprised by “pale blue, a color of peace.” The point is what? Perhaps Melania’s pale blue outfit will impart some peace onto her horrible husband who is targeting women and immigrants? Perhaps pale blue will diminish his sexism, racism, xenophobia, narcissism, and impulsiveness? Perhaps pale blue will calm his denigration of the free press? Offended.

  7. I’m from the Gold Coast also and just wanted to mention that it’s always prefaced by ‘the’… so you’re going to Melbourne and to the Gold Coast :)
