Area Rug Crush

By Kate Riley August 5, 2015

I went searching for a new rug for our entryway last week, it had to be either a 6′ round or 4 x 6′. Size is always the first consideration! After much research I finally ordered this vintage viscose rug for my entryway.

In my search I visited many of my favorite sources for affordable rugs and some new ones too. Kilim or navajo rugs are still trending, as are blue or over dyed rugs. Marbled or painterly rugs are also a contemporary look, these rugs below caught my eye, if only I had a dozen spaces in which to place them!

From top left: austin diamond / dimension rug / magical thinking / yellow gray kilim / overdyed patchwork / ikea marslev / arrows woven kilim / rush wave (multiple colors) / skye monet / watercolor / surya watercolor / marbled

Here are my favorite sources for affordable rugs, what are yours?

  1. Just remember – protip for Rugs USA: they slide their prices and their sales so rugs are pretty much always the same price. The 80% off sales just have jacked up base prices. The 30% sales have lower base prices. Sometimes you can actually save more during the 30% off sales. So never feel pressured by “sales” or “events” at that site. It’s all slight of hand. Good rugs though!

  2. This is a great round-up! I haven’t seen the marbled before, and it’s so different! I’m a sucker for the over-dyed blues — just looks so much like water!

  3. I would love to see a picture of the rug in your space, and a review of it as well. I have had that same rug on my wishlist for ages, but the reviews are always so mixed on it. My living room is teal/gray/orange, and I want something not too crazy to ground the room, but that will hide dirt and spills (we eat snacks and treats while watching tv as a family in there). A lot of the reviews refer to the rug as blue, and shades of blue would be okay, but I am wanting a darkish teal/turquoise as opposed to blue.

  4. In addition to the places you mentioned, I also love Wayfair. Our rugs usually come from R
ugs USA, Overstock or Wayfair :)

  5. I love the marbled one- it’s kind of modern, kind of traditional, totally perfect! I usually buy from RugsUSA or the Pottery Barn or Restoration Hardware outlets near where we live. Many designer friends also find great stuff on eBay or at Neiman’s Last Call but both of those options are totally hit or miss.
