It’s (Almost) Fall Y’all

By Kate Riley August 17, 2012

Back to school time always brings on the images of fall, and while the August weather still feels like summer outside, I confess my mind is already thinking about all things autumn.  By September, I’ll be in the mood to do some transitioning indoors, which means it’s time for some seasonal decorating, and I’ve teamed up with my blog buddies Layla, Rhoda, and Sarah again for a round of link parties!

This year, I’ll be hosting the Fall Mantels party and the other ladies (plus Kevin!) are hosting outdoor decor, tablescapes, and easy fall decor, from September 18th through September 27th on Tuesdays and Thursdays, see the button above for exact dates and hosts.

To me, fall is always about bringing the outdoors in and the mantel is the perfect place for fresh clippings of leaves changing color.

When decorating a mantel, there’s no need to restrict yourself to the top mantel shelf.  Add that extra layer of pattern, texture, or whimsy with a creative mantel scarf or garland.

Layered artwork, branch hurricane sconces, and a magnolia leaf garland complete this living room ready for the autumn chill.

Layering art and mirrors is très chic, finish it off with some vivid fall stems or branches placed to one side and voilà, a magnificent display.

Seasonal decorating should be stress free, so keeping it simple is the easy choice.   A few branches, candles, and apples were all Emily added to her fall mantel, or pile up some mini pumpkins on the surface like Lauren and call it a day.

Don’t have a mantel?  No worries!  Join the party by decorating a bookshelf or hutch, any fall vignette will do.

We hope you’ll join in on the autumn link party fun, the four of us really enjoy these seasonal link parties and we love all the inspiration it brings.

Another round of ‘Best of the Blogosphere’ coming up on Sunday with a lot of great projects to feature!  Wishing you all a fantastic weekend.

  1. Sorry, I am in denial about fall approaching. I feel like summer has gone too fast and we havne’t done anything yet. Sigh! No, hope, nada, fall is not coming.

  2. Love a good mantel party and Fall is like the big kick off to the holiday season. Can’t wait to see what everyone comes up with? :)

  3. I have a beautiful mantel with nice woodwork trim etc, but our spot for the tv is over the fireplace. To “decorate” it, the only spot to put stuff covers the best part, the trim! I keep looking for ideas for a mantel with a tv, but coming up empty. I would love ideas and some inspiration! I can’t be the only one with this issue, right?

  4. I have to wait until my kids go back to school (week after next! aaaghh!) and then I *might* be able to think about fall decorating :) In the meantime, I’ll just look through the link parties and pin away. (Thanks for including my mantel pic in your post, btw!)

  5. I am starting to see more and more Fall inspiration floating around blogland. I am not quite ready to jump on board yet, but it is in the back of my mind. You have given your readers some great inspiration.
    Happy Weekend to YOU,
    Kathysue

  6. Hi all! I’ve been following CG all summer and have been meaning to ask this question. Here ‘goes. How does someone like me who does not have a Blog, but does have some images of home / festive decoration, join in on a Link Party? Or is a Link Party just for the bloggers to post but for us all to enjoy the inspiration?
And one more, if this Link Party is in September, does this mean our Fall and Halloween decorations should be up by then?
    Thank you Kate, as always.

    • Hi Christine! Yes, unfortunately link parties are for those with blogs who have an active hyperlink they can share. I’m wondering if you can upload images to Flickr or some other online site to be able to share? Not sure if InLinkz which I use allows that, will have to check, you’re the first person to ask! No need to decorate for Halloween, but if you’re in the mood, why not?

  7. In blog land there seems to be such a rush to the next decorating season-while I like them all, I want to enjoy them all as well. It’s like magazines-I have heaps of fall issues now that I am keeping in a pile for a more suitable time.

For me, Fall starts in October, Winter in January, Spring is March and summer starts end of May.
The actual weather may not agree with me, lol, but hey. That’s ok.

I won’t be able to join because I’ll be too far behind, but it will be fun to look at!

  8. After having one of the hottest summers, I am really ready for fall. I love all the inspiration you have featured. Especially the mantel in the at home in Arkansas. I am really thinking about doing that to my mantel and fireplace. Love it!

  9. Thanks Kate. I wonder if I can post pictures to Pinterest and post a link there? Maybe…
Every October, I surround our front door arch with dozens of large black bats. I made them out of stiffened felt and they are so awesome. Can’t wait to get some equally great DIY ideas for the front steps. As for mantels, I only do Christmas mantels but have a feeling this year things will be different around here :)
